Crowdfunding since 2010

Attacked covering refugee arrival on Lesbos by bystanders -cameras and gear thrown into the sea.

Covering refugees arriving at the shore of Lesvos, locals that wanted me to hinder from having photos of them shouting at a boat of minors and women, orchestrated an attack on me. They beat me up and threw my cameras into the harbour. Sadly my equipment was not fully insured.

What is this project all about?

I am a freelance photo- and videojournalist, mostly covering social movements, protest, social issues and breaking news. To get back running I need my cameras back. As cameras and saltwater are an aweful combination I would be glad if someone wants to support me.

What I lost due to the attack:
- 5D MKIV (2.499,00 € amazon)
- Sigma Art 50mm (699,99 € - amazon)
- Canon 70-200mm II (1.799,00 € - rhinocamera)
- Fuji X100S (434 € - mpb)
- Manfrotto Video Head (119 € Calumet)
- Cullmann Carbon Tripod (114,99 € Calumet)
- Rode VideoMic Pro (59,90 € Calumet)

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

The aim is to be able to sustain work and report. Whoever wants to support me can feel free to.

Why would you support this project?

Stupidly and sadly my equipment was not insured and therefore I lost the basis of my work.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

I will buy new gear, to be able to keep reporting. If there should me more money raised then I need to replace my equipment I will donate that money to people aiding refugees in Lesbos directly. I met the great initiative ‚Refocus Media‘ that are teaching refugees media skills.

I admire their work and think it’s more important than ever to support people that have a better insight to this in developing skills in storytelling. I met great talented young photographers and videographers there, was able to see the sneak preview of a documentary produced by the group on crossing the sea.

Refocus Media holds classes twice a day. From still to moving images the people are taught to go out and explore their surroundings. I was able to attend two classes and see the way their work.

They should be supported at least as much as I was.

Who are the people behind the project?

Michael Trammer, Freelance Photo- and Videojournalist

Wow all of you are amazing, I am overwhelmed by your support. All money donated from now on, will go to

We need more journalists on Lesvos to report about the situation. Refugees need to be represented amongst those! The amount on attacks on migrants on the island need to be reported about. They need gear to supply their classes, so the money goes to a similar use like mine - that's why I selected them.
