“Residenzpflicht” will have its world premiere on the 10th of May in Berlin, at the cinema babylon, in Mitte. The film was produced over the last 3 years and is a close colaboration with grassroots refugees organizations, anti-racist groups, lawyers, academics and activists. What is the project goal and who is the project for?
The main goal is to break the isolation of asylum seekers living in camps, showing there are groups and activists who are working against laws such as the Residenzpflicht. That they are not alone. Furthermore the German society should be better informed and sensibilized about these problems. The documentary “Residenzpflicht” will enforce the discussion about the right of residence in Germany. Why would you support this project?
Everyday racism and intolerance grow daily in the european societies and project like ours are needed because it stands against a xenophobic and racist society. With the support of several refugee self-organized groups, media, lawyers, academics and artists our team produced the film “Residenzpflicht” and hope that together with the public more awareness will be raised.
How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?
The documentary is already finished, after three years of research and production. To finance the premiere and the dvd we need your support. The premiere of the film will be at 10.05.12 at the cinema Babylon Mitte/ Berlin. The ticket for the film is 7€, which many refugees won't be able to pay, so we need to raise money to be able to give refugees free tickets. Who are the people behind the project?
Our team is a wild bunch of Berliners coming from different countries and different areas of occupation. In charge of the project is the journalist, film producer and director Denise Garcia Bergt. She produced more the twenty films. In 2005 she directed the documentary “I´m Ugly but Trendy”, a film about female singers from the slums of Rio de Janeiro/Brasil.
