What is this project all about?

Two men sail around the world. They master storms and adventures and find a small paradise in Latin America. Unvoluntarily, they steal the bride of a local druglord and the story takes some crazy turns.

This plot is told in short anecdotes of acting and film, which are then arranged into a complex composition with dance and music scenes.

The modern aesthetics and creative staging of tap dance and its tight connection with the original music are the most prominent features of this production. As in former productions, Sebastian Weber expands the common boundaries of his genre and discovers a wide range of expressive means for tap dancing, from smal sounding gestures to hard driving foot percussion.

On a less obvious level, the different ingredients of this production add up to a reflection on synchronisation. Synchronisation not only as a phenomenon of temporal organisation, but also a stylistic method in music and dance as well as a social and psychological phenomen.

"Sebastian Weber turns tap dance from a one-dimensional knocking-dance into a multi-layered work of art."
(Leipziger Volkszeitung on Weber's last production THE GROOVE JOURNALS)

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

Our aim is to create a highly musical, precisely crafted, and very physical dance theater, that is both an intelligent investigation of the topic of synchronisation and an impassionate adventure in contemporary musical theater. As a "side effect" we want to further expand the boundaries of tap dance as a contemporary means of expression.

SYNCHRONZEUGEN is for friends of contemporary theatrical forms, jazz music and dance.

Why would you support this project?

SYNCHRONZEUGEN is in a peculiar situation: the institutions in charge of subsidizing contemporary performing arts have granted us support on local, state, and federal levels. This is a great compliment to our work. However, the grant money does not cover the expenses of the production.

We have shortened the budget whereever possible and also invest private money, but there are at least 4,200 € missing.

If we manage to raise this money through your support, this project will be realized immediately. All other aspects are already organized. Your support will enable us to create an ambitious, innovative dance theater project that discovers new grounds for tap as a contemporary art form and brings together a high caliber cast of performers from different countries and backgrounds.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

In its most economical variant, the budet of SYNCHRONZEUGEN adds up to 37.000 €. This covers the remuneration for all artists and the team, as well as costs of transport and travel, stage set, technical equipment and fees. It also includes the full cost of 9 performances!

The production is financed by government grants on local, state, and federal levels, as well as support from our co-producer LOFFT, and the sale of tickets. We also invest private money. All in all, we got a little more than 90 percent of the expenses covered.

If we manage to raise the missing amount through this campaign, it will go directly to the production. The building of the set as well as the production of the film parts are examples of aspects of this production that are directly dependent on your support.
