A Meet-Up café for residents, volunteers and people from the local community of the emergency accommodation at the former Tempelhofer Airport.

What is this project all about?

Our aim is to help refugees to settle in! THFwelcome e.V. seeks to make it possible for those who come to Germany as refugees to establish themselves here as quickly as possible. Having already created a clothing bank and worked on a number of cooperative projects, we are currently developing an encounter café in the largest emergency accommodation in Berlin, situated at the old Tempelhofer Airport.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

The Café will be a meeting point for residents of the accommodation, residents of the local area and voluntary helpers. It will function as a meeting point, as well as offering space for personal development, to start projects, and to allow for integration. For residents of the accommodation, goods will be sold at cost price.

The Café will be run jointly by the residents themselves, along with volunteers. Our long-term goal is to be able to offer part-time jobs to refugees.

Why would you support this project?

In order to be able to open our encounter café at the end of April and sell our first hot cup of coffee/tea and delicious piece of cake, we need financial support for the construction and initial phase of the project.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

The money will primarily be used for the construction of the Café. This includes:

  • Building furniture
  • Buying café equipment
  • Buying in food and drink products

Every euro goes into the implementation of the project. What we also particularly need are a stereo system, beamer and a projector screen for cinema evenings- which we would also happily receive as material donations.

Who are the people behind the project?

The facebook-page ‘THFwelcome’ (originally ‘Tempelhof Helps’) was founded in August 2015 and has been a partner organisation of the managing firm ‘Tabaja’ since the opening of the accommodation in Tempelhof. Through incredible support from volunteers, we were able to establish a clothing bank, as well as other projects for residents. In the meantime we have gained over 5300 members of the page.

As a result of the ongoing need to promote exchange, togetherness and integration, the ‘THFwelcome’ association was established and the idea of opening an affordable encounter café was developed.

If you would like to support us further and be kept up to date through our Newsletter, then become a member of our association- ,THFwelcome’!
