KATELIN - NEUES ALBUM "UNSEE IT"

About the birth
 
The birth of my two children brought a serious turn in my life. While I had been on the road a lot before, as a Musician, I found myself spending most of my time almost 6 years - at home. Between diapers, mountains of laundry, and kindergarten,
I continued to write songs. Lots of songs. When I tentatively showed the new songs, now in English, to some friends, the unanimous feedback was: “They are so different! I
didn't expect that. Cool."
They were right. My life had changed, I myself had changed, and so had my songs.

And that is how, in addition to my sons, "Katelin" was born.
 
 
About finitude
 
The following years were marked by several blows that rocked my life. Within one year, the 4-year-old daughter of our closest friends died of cancer and our 10-year-old godchild died in a car accident.

Fundamental events like birth and death change the kind of questions you ask:

What is truly important in life? How do you live that one, finite life you have been given? Or even: Why do we worry so much about trivial things? 


Our appearance, our weight, success, money, approval ... all nourished by the media, Instagram, commercials, and the like. You just have to want it, and you will achieve the perfect, optimized version of yourself, and finally live a happy life. And if you can't do it, sorry, but you've failed.
On top of that, everyday obligations keep us busy and we just don't get around to face the important questions in life. Or maybe we simply don’t have the strength to do it.

As a result, we often don’t notice that we live our lives in a fear-driven way, instead of courageously shaping our own life from the inside out, following our own values.

Events like the recent pandemic or the war in Ukraine bring the above mentioned questions into focus, and speak a similar language.
 
 
About rebellion
 
These events caused a lot of inner struggle, and gradually awakened a healthy resistance in me. A rebellion against being other-directed, and against being told by outside sources what my life should look like.
And although this process didn’t fix everything all at once, it provided the necessary strength to take charge of my life and break free from expectations others have on me. Katelin, a happy rebel.

Therefore, it is not surprising that with the new album "Katelin" also breaks away audibly from expectations, and boldy unfolds a powerful beauty.
 
While the past songs were kept more simplistic and acoustic, a new self-confident vastness emerges, resulting in a full band sound and wonderful arrangements.
 
Raw and earthy elements meet sounds and loops. Organic-electro. But without genetic engineering. Sustainable and genuine.

I wish to set a countertrend with my music to the loud, demanding voices that come to us from the outside, and to encourage people to shape their own lives in order to live them with boldness. Beyond every “Have To", all efficiency, functionality and
self-optimization, that we encounter at every corner. Its all about living a healthy life from the inside out.

The money will be used to finance the mixing & mastering of the album production.
 
You may wonder “what does mixing & mastering mean?”
 
The goal of mixing is to combine the individual tracks into a coherent overall
sound. Above all, the mixing engineer will bring out the emotions of a song
and the artist's vision. In addition to the necessary technical steps, mixing also
provides many creative options for shaping the artist's sound.
 
The goal of mastering a track is for the song to have a balanced frequency
response, appropriate volume levels and dynamics. This all serves to make the song
 sound good on as many playback devices (from the hifi sound system to the earpods)  as possible, so it can compete with other
productions within the same genre of music.
When mastering an album, the mastering engineer also makes sure that the songs sound
balanced in relation to each other.
 
Jörn Schlüter and Chris Lass will do the mixing and mastering for me.
