Crowdfunding since 2010

A song for human rights. A song to remember. For a Europa that solves problems, instead of riding them out.

Hello, I am singer-songwriter Gesa Winger and I wrote the song WHERE ARE YOU, EUROPE? - in German WO BIST DU, EUROPA? The song is about the dreadful situation of refugees on Europes boarders. I want to produce this song fast and in high quality, so the subject doesn’t fade from the spotlight again. I want to make the song available for events, aid agencies and videos (it is GEMA-free). For a Europe that protects human rights and doesn’t ride problems out on the expense of the weak.

What is this project all about?

If something moves me deeply I write a song about it. The topics are normally love or the sea. But the pictures of the burning refugee camp Moria (on 9/9/20) and how the refugees are treated in general, moved me to tears. Children that fled war, were shot at with tear gas. Thirsty people with no possensions whatsoever are denied water. Refugees in distress at sea who get pushed back into the open ocean on their broken ships. All these things make me feel so sad, helpless and especially angry that a political song came about as a result. I want to produce and publish WHERE ARE YOU, EUROPE? fast, straightforward and GEMA-free. When I raise enough money I can even invite guest musicians and record an expressive video.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

My song is for everybody who takes a stand for a just Europe. It’s Singer-Songwriter-Pop with a big heart, warm voice and in this case a lot of anger.
I want to record the song in October 2020 with my producer Julian Hoffmann in Berlin (conform to Covid-19 provisions). When I raise enough money I can even invite guest musicians to make the song even more lively and diverse or even record and cut an expressive video. I will publish this song as soon as possible eg on current streaming- and video-plattforms, on instagram and my webpage www.gesawinger.de
It’s possible that I write another verse in the process or change the structure of the song, but the main message remains the same.

Why would you support this project?

When you think the topic of refugee policy should stay on the agenda and want to see concrete action on the part of politics, please support me now! With publishing the song WHERE ARE YOU, EUROPE? we can reach and stir up others, encourage them to speak their truth and proclaim their resentment. So we can apply pressure to the politicians and bring about lasting change to this conditions. For a Europe that protects human rights and doesn’t ride problems out on the expense of the weak.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

By reaching my funding goal I can travel to Berlin and make a simple but high quality recording.
With each Euro towards my stretch goal the song can become more diverse, eg through a longer recording time or guest musicians. And with a little luck and a lot of support I can record an expressive video to reach even more people.

Who are the people behind the project?

Hello, I am singer-songwriter Gesa Winger from northern Germany. I already funded four of my music albums on startnext.
I can not fund this project by myself, due to Covid-19 and the (financial) consequences for all freelance artists this year. But if many people give a little, this song can manifest, touch lives and call to action.
I think that every little, positive act adds up to something beautiful and big and I want to encourage others to listen to their heart and follow their own path.
