Crowdfunding since 2010

Our objective is to offer top-notch footwear to the Zambian populace, alongside generating employment opportunities within the country.

During our visit to Simonga, Zambia, we met Mr. Mbanacele Tolombita from the Mukeya Development Centre, which aims to provide essential skills to the local community and has gained experience in shoe production. Their main objective is to create high-quality and durable shoes, with the necessary equipment. This equipment (shoe soles and manufacturing machines) we transport from Germany to Zambia. For the future we want to develop shoes out of sustainable materials such as algae foam.

What is this project all about?

As a result of a trading company closure in Creußen, a range of new, stored shoe soles in various versions (e.g. children's shoes, women's shoes, health shoes, etc.) are available for free. These soles need to be transported along with shoemaking tools to the Mukeya Development Center, where a training center for female shoemakers is being set up. The goal is to deepen knowledge in shoe processing, based on the model of the Twaabane Creative Center for seamstresses. The versatility of the shoe soles makes them ideal for developing a range of skills, such as sports and health shoes, and allows for specializations to be acquired. Over time, this can lead to the ability to repair shoes, increase the lifespan of the shoes and reduce costs, thus having a positive impact on the environment.

The shoe soles from Germany are a one-off shipment, so a sustainable solution for the future needs to be found. The plan is to produce the shoe soles from algae-based material using the BLOOM technique from South African producers. This creates another local value chain with the harvesting of algae in areas such as the Kariba reservoir and the Zambezi, and the production of the foam.

The shoes produced ensure the free training of the shoemakers, and in turn, the long-term existence and functioning of the business model. In addition, all children's shoe soles sent are processed into shoes and donated to local children in need. Currently, shoe soles are imported from Asia for current shoe production, and local manufacturers made from old car tires cannot deliver the required quality and are not sustainable as they still cause microplastics, and can only be used for the production of flip-flops.

Our local partner has already received a sample package and would like to receive as many shoe soles as possible. This project not only supports the Mukeya Development Center's training program but also has positive environmental impacts and helps provide shoes for children in need.
