SAVE KAFFEE INGWER

Our beloved coffeeshop Kaffee Ingwer has been serving the community of Berlin-Friedrichshain since 2018. Started by Stefanie Witt—who also founded Berlin’s first independent vegan lifestyle market, The Green Market Berlin—we launched as a plant-based specialty coffee shop promoting wellness and organic, healthy ingredients. Promoting a cruelty-free and greener lifestyle, Kaffee Ingwer acts a hub for the local community, providing a pickup point for the vegan farm Plantage and selling independent products from Berlin manufacturers from our small, carefully curated shop inside.

During Covid, Kaffee Ingwer received a small amount of funding, but in 2022, Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB) demanded we repay it in full. While we took IBB to court in a long and difficult battle, we sadly lost. It’s a story we’ve heard time and time again with the small storefronts that make this city special, many which have been closing at an alarming rate over the last two years.

We’re now in the process of slowly paying back IBB. The current economic crisis has meant that business has slowed and costs have increased, and for the first time since we opened, we’re not sure that Kaffee Ingwer can continue to stay open without your help. We’re passionate about keeping the Berlin landscape full of independent shops, especially those who support animal welfare, local creativity and a greener future like ours.

Now to the crunch. Our goal is to raise 20,000 Euros to help repay the IBB Covid funding and start growing our business once again.

We appreciate any contribution, large or small, and are so grateful for your ongoing support five years on! We love what we do, and while it’s sometimes been a rough journey (we know we’re not the only ones), what we get back from taking action on veganism and connecting with the immediate community makes it worth it.

Our target is to raise 20.000 Euros. We feel our target group is the wonderful customers we are fortunate to have, and anyone who wishes to support independent businesses—especially those that are vegan!

We feel what makes Berlin so unique is the culture of independent businesses daring to pursue their dreams and to go up against corporations. Not only are we independent, but we’re trying to push for a better future, highlighting just how easy it can be to live a plant-based lifestyle which is better for animals, the environment and your health.

The funds raised will be used pay Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB) which will remove our debt and help us to focus on business activity and ultimately allow us to survive.
