Crowdfunding since 2010

A book about contemporary radio.

For the month of October 2016 the International Radio Art Festival Radio Revolten gathered 100 of today’s radio artists in the city of Halle (Saale) in Germany, hosted by the community radio station CORAX. Radio Revolten featured a dedicated city-wide radio art frequency, installations, live performances, conferences, workshops and public interventions. Radio Revolten was by far the world’s most extensive radio art festival to date.

What is this project all about?

The festival and the book reclaim FM radio as an open-access medium for cultural use. The book covers the presented artworks and daily events of Radio Revolten alongside contemporary thinking by radio activists and artists on the current and future use of their material and medium of choice. It is written in English and features specially commissioned full-colour photographs.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

The Radio Revolten book is written for radio listeners, radio makers, radio artists and all people interested in the adventures of sound and silence on FM. It will also be of interest to a general art audience and those interested in experimental music.

Why would you support this project?

The book is finished, with your pre-order you will help make the printing possible.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

We will use the financing for the printing of the Radio Revolten book with Spector Books. Spector Books is a publisher based in Leipzig (Germany), whose practice is settled squarely at the intersection of art, theory, and design.

Who are the people behind the project?

The book has been written by a mixture of key organisers, artists, thinkers and observers.
